SHAMELESS GRACE #5

SHAMELESS GRACE # 5 LIVING IN THE FREEDOM OF GOD’S LOVE DR. LARRY LAMB - OCTOBER 2, 2022 Galatians 5.13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” Luke 15.1,2 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of reli gious law complain that He was associating with such sinful people— even eating with them! A prodigal son / daughter abandons their faith when they become enamored by someone, a lifestyle, or a fantasy that promises fulfillment. They left: - TRUTH… to chase a lie. - SECURITY… to embrace a fallacy. - WISE COUNSEL… to the addiction of their way. Luke 15.11-13 To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: “A man had two sons. The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons. Too much of anything in the hands of the immature is usually catastrophic. Luke 15.14-16 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. REF Luke 15.20,21 Ephesians 2.8,9 God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. When Jesus told stories it was important for people to locate themselves within the story. 1) For those who relate to attitude and action of the prodigal son. Stop where you are, come to your senses and go home. The word is REPENTANCE. Don’t travel another day away from home. Come back. 2) For those who relate to the father. Don’t stop PRAYING for a prodigal son or daughter. God is always at work and knows exactly how to bring them back to sanity. 3) For those who relate to the older son. Lose your resentment. Take a new look at the CROSS and see if your resentment matches the weight of the CROSS and the Love of Jesus. 4) God’s viewpoint is love, grace, and forgiveness. But wait, there are consequences to their choices. That’s true for them and for us. Before we get too steeped in our self-righteousness, let’s go back and read: Luke 15.1,2 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that He was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them! Self-righteousness and joy cannot coexist. Stop analyzing every motive from your perfected point of view. Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can't do anything about my situation. But I know You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the Living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. I receive joyfully receive Your gift of GRACE. In Your Name. Amen.

SHAMELESS GRACE # 2 LIVING IN THE FREEDOM OF GOD’S LOVE DR. LARRY LAMB - SEPTEMBER 11, 2022 Galatians 5.13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” One of the greatest acts a family can do for one another is come to the place of forgiveness. Families disintegrate over time because of pride. In any relationship: ▪ Pride destroys the fabric of trust. ▪ Pride dissolves the foundation of truth. ▪ Pridedisruptstheatmospherepeace. Pride destroys, dissolves, and disrupts the heart. ▪ Grace heals emotional wounds from the past. ▪ Grace extends love and kindness to others. ▪ Grace forgives from a life of humility. Colossians 3.13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Showing grace to undeserving people is the wise thing to do. Genesis 37:18 When Joseph’s brothers saw him coming, they recognized him in the distance. As he approached, they made plans to kill him. REF Genesis 41.41-44 -A clear conscience is a powerful way to live. You can look straight ahead. -A guilty conscience is a troubling way to live. You are always looking over your shoulder. Genesis 42.1,2 When Jacob heard that grain was available in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why are you standing around looking at one another? 2 I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy enough grain to keep us alive. Otherwise we’ll die.” REF Genesis 45.3-5 Showing grace to undeserving people is the wise thing to do. REF Genesis 50.18-21 1. We can live by keeping score of all the grievances that others have done to us, or we can live by grace. IT’S A CHOICE. 2. We can live with shriveled-up hearts because of hurts by others and become a judge of everyone’s intentions or choose to apply GRACE and free up space for GOD’S PEACE IN OUR HEARTS. 3. Come under the shadow of Jesus’ Cross to dissolve the layers of unforgiveness, hatred, and jealousy toward others. Make allowance for the faults of others and apply grace. Grace is only possible because of the GOODNESS OF GOD. Showing grace to undeserving people is the wise thing to do. SHAMELESS GRACE # 4 LIVING IN THE FREEDOM OF GOD’S LOVE DR. LARRY LAMB - SEPTEMBER 25, 2022 Galatians 5.13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” - Jesus the Messiah handles hurting people with GENTLENESS. - Grace reminds us that we will never be God. HIS GRACE covered us, and our grace can cover others. John 4.4-7 “He had to go through Samaria on the way. 5 Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.”” John 4.7,8 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” 8 He was alone at the time because His disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. John 4.10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask Me, and I would give you Living Water. IMPORTANT: The gift of His grace will cause you stop searching in the dumpsters of the culture and drink the pure, life changing, and living water from heaven. Living Water will satisfy your souls all the way into eternity. The kind of water that: ▪ Soothes the soul in deep discouragement. ▪ Covers the sinner’s shame. ▪ Createsspaceforauthenticforgiveness. ▪ Can take the cares of a teenager in despair and redirect their heart to hopeful thoughts. John 4.15-18 “Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.” 16 “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. 17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!” John 4.26 Then Jesus told her, “I Am the Messiah!” John 4.28-30 The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, 29 “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could He possibly be the Messiah?” 30 So the people came streaming from the village to see Him. - GRACE covers the one exposed. - LOVE makes it safe. - God’s GRACE and God’s LOVE. Drink it in and never be the same. ▪ Sin causes us shame. Grace covers us. ▪ Sin deepens a hole too deep to get out of; GRACE takes us by the hand and lifts us out of the pit of shame. IRRESISTIBLE GENTLENESS WINS! SHAMELESS GRACE # 3 LIVING IN THE FREEDOM OF GOD’S LOVE DR. LARRY LAMB - SEPTEMBER 18, 2022 Galatians 5.13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” Grace For People Not Like Me Prophets had a simple job description: Listen to God – Relay His Words to people who need an affirming word of care or a sharp rebuke because of a callous heart toward God. Jonah 1.1,2 The Lord gave this message to Jonah, son of Amittai: 2 “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce My judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” ▪ People turning to sin is called: disobedience. ▪ People turning from sin is called: obedience. Let’s review a few pieces of truth for our day: ▪ God’s calling, location, and work is typically a custom design. ▪ God calls some people to dangerous places. ▪ God is already at the place where He calls people. ▪ God cannot be outrun. People who run from God’s call waste time and money. ▪ God still sends people on missions of Grace. “Satan will always have a ship waiting on you when you want to run away from God.” Billy Graham God always has ways to get our attention. - In God’s GRACE He answered Jonah’s prayer. - In God’s GRACE He protected Jonah’s life. - In God’s GRACE He gave Jonah a second chance. - GRACE is always welcomed but harder to share. - We want God’s GRACE, and He wants us to share His GRACE. Grace For People Not Like Me Jonah 3.1-5 Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time: 2 “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.” 3 This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all. 4 On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” 5 The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow. Jonah 4.11 But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?” *A reminder that we have received GRACE & and we are to be people of GRACE… Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. Amen.

SHAMELESS GRACE #1

SHAMELESS GRACE #1 LIVING IN THE FREEDOM OF GOD’S LOVE DR. LARRY LAMB - SEPTEMBER 4, 2022 Galatians 5.13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead use your freedom to serve one another in love.” ▪ The Joy of Grace - Freedom From Performance ▪ Salvation is not earned; it’s given. It costs Jesus His perfect life, but it’s given to sinful people for free. Galatians 3.22 But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ. Grace is a gift to receive; Not an obligation to fulfill. Galatians 3.3,4 How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort? 4 Have you experienced so much for nothing? Surely it was not in vain, was it? Grace Demolishes: ▪ The endless“todo”list for god. ▪ The need to be in control (controlling people are insecure and prideful people) ▪ The fear that I will never be good enough. 1 John 4.18 Such love has no fear because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love. ▪ GraceDisplays-Freedom 2 Corinthians 3.17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Ref Galatians 5.1-4 Ephesians 2.8,9 God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Comprehending God’s Grace doesn’t motivate us to sin but motivates us to live in JOYFUL OBEDIENCE. Final Thoughts 1. Have I trusted Christ alone for salvation or am I working for it? (DO vs. DONE) 2. Do I often think God is keeping score on me that will determine the flow of His goodness toward me? I need a job, so I’ll go to church this week. (PERFORMANCE) 3. Jesus’ death on the cross is the only payment needed to satisfy the wrath of God toward sinners. Let’s not insult Jesus, our Master, by living like it was not enough. 4. God’s grace means we can start over. God’s answer to our failures, poor choices, embarrassing sin, and regrets is a 5-letter word: GRACE. Amen.

SHAMELESS GRACE # 6 LIVING IN THE FREEDOM OF GOD’S LOVE DR. LARRY LAMB - OCTOBER 9, 2022 Galatians 5.13 “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” KEY: God does not operate on the basis of fairness, so let’s stop looking for fair deals in God’s plan. Isaiah 55.8,9 My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord. And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts. Ephesians 4.32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Being a Christian is not about rules to keep but a relationship to enjoy. Acts 7.59,60 …“Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died. Luke 23.39-43 One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are You? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” 40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? 41 We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your Kingdom.” 43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” Grace doesn’t always seem fair. 1.All people go to heaven the same way – the given gift of grace of God and not earning the grace of God. 2. The most godless person is a candidate for the grace of God. 3. The cross was God’s wrath against sin and His love for all people. “If you want to see what judgement looks like, go to the cross. If you want to see what love looks like, go to the cross.” D.A. Carson ▪ Jesus paid a debt He did not owe because we owed a debt we could not pay. Grace. ▪ Grace doesn’t always seem fair. ▪ It’s AMAZING GRACE. Are you covered by God’s GRACE? SONG REFERENCE: Until Grace by CeCe Winans & Tauren Wells Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can't do anything about my situation. But I know You came to pay the penalty for my sin. OUR RECURRING PROBLEM

THE STANDARD #4 THE WORD OF GOD IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY OUR RECURRING PROBLEM DR. LARRY LAMB – JUNE 19, 2022 Every person who has ever lived has the nature of sin residing in them. It’s from the original corruption that all sin proceeds. Genesis 2.15-17 The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 16 But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— 17 except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”  Sin brings regret.  Regret creates emotional anguish.  Emotional anguish makes us a tragic version of who we could have been.  Our tragic version of ourselves cycles back around to regret. Genesis 3.1-6 The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” 2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’” 4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. 5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” 6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful, and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So, she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her hus band, who was with her, and he ate it, too. The truth is we are just like our first parents! Jeremiah 17.9 The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?  Satan lies to people, people believe the lies, and then we act just like our original parents.  Just like God came to Adam & Eve in the garden after their sin, God comes to us in the person of Jesus -- Christ Jesus, The Anointed One.  In our spiritual death, Jesus comes as the God Man to become the perfect sacrifice to satisfy the wrath of God against humanity. Ephesians 2.1,2 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. Ephesians 2.4-10 But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8 God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.  Like the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 3.14 our response should be: When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father. - Sin has consequences. Run. - God is love. Believe. - Grace is free. Receive. - Jesus gives life. Live. Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know that the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge that I can't do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the Living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your Name. Amen.

WHAT CAN A SKEPTIC SAY NOW

THE STANDARD #1 THE WORD OF GOD IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY WHAT CAN A SKEPTIC SAY NOW DR. LARRY LAMB – MAY 8, 2022 When Jesus makes people new on the inside it changes the outside, and that’s a miracle. DESIRES CHANGE! 2 Corinthians 5.17 If anyone belongs to Christ, then he is made new. The old things have gone; everything is made new! JESUS CHANGES PEOPLE. 1 Corinthians 6.9-11 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. Be firmly planted in the reality that we should never give up on people because of the Gospel. Luke 18.35-39 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road. 36 When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him that Jesus the Nazarene was going by. 38 So he began shouting, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 “Be quiet!” the people in front yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” • People with nothing to lose are not concerned with what others think. They have a desperate need. • People with nothing to lose don’t mind asking for help. They desperately need something to change. • People with nothing to lose often act with fierce determination. Luke 18.40,41 When Jesus heard him, He stopped and ordered that the man be brought to Him. As the man came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see!” Luke 18.42,43 And Jesus said, “All right, receive your sight! Your faith has healed you.” 43 Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus, praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too. Lessons From A Blind Beggar 1) Because Jesus is always near, don’t be ashamed to ask for help. “What would other people think?” has caused more people to remain stuck in their sin or despair. 2) Because Jesus is near, speak up. Our asking is wrapped into the sovereignty of God. 3) Because Jesus is near, be specific. The blind man could not see, but he also knew what to ask for- SIGHT. 4) Because Jesus is near, why not praise Him for what He has done? People can be good at complaining but show a deficit in being thankful. It’s always good to express gratitude. Amen.

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU LISTEN TO

THE STANDARD #2 THE WORD OF GOD IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY BE CAREFUL WHO YOU LISTEN TO DR. LARRY LAMB – MAY 15, 2022 There are loud voices in the culture clamoring for attention saying: “Listen to me, notice me, follow me, trust me, and like me.” - Who is your source of truth? - Do you trust your feelings to validate truth? - The worship of tolerance says every individual’s belief is equally right and equally important; therefore, right and wrong are individual choices. “Tolerance works IF you are tolerant of my choices.” - The moral compass is broke. - God’s Truth has always clashed with the culture’s worldview and the result is anger directed toward those who hold to a distinctively Christian worldview. The Biblical Worldview - Moral reality is found in the nature and character of the eternal God. Absolute Truth is known by the authority of the reveled mind of God in Scripture. The Progressive Worldview - It refers to a worldview that generally assumes there is no absolute truth or an established morality. Moral truth comes from an individual and a person determines their own truth sourced by their feelings. The Word Of God Is The Final Authority Galatians 1.13 You know what I was like when I followed the Jewish religion - how I violently persecuted God’s church. I did my best to destroy it. 1 Corinthians 6.9-11 Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshippers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, 10 thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers—none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God. 11 There was a time when some of you WERE just like that, but now your sins have been washed away, and you have been set apart for God. You have been made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for you. The Truth of God transforms people 2 Corinthians 5.17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! REF 2 Timothy 3.1-5 CVC Mission Statement - Inviting the lost and broken into our Christ-centered world from empty religion to generational life change. John 15.18 When the world hates you, remember it hated Me before it hated you. The Word Of God Is The Final Authority 1. All people matter to God; therefore, all people must matter to us. (What if we were mature enough to see people through the eyes of a loving Savior?) 2. One invaluable characteristic that should prevail as Christ followers is bold grace. (Grace is getting something we do not deserve but we received it anyway.) TRUTH is what we say. GRACE is how we should say it. Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept You out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear You knocking. By faith I gratefully receive Your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, for coming to earth. I believe You are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank You for taking my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe Your words are true. Amen.

WHAT IF WE DIDN’T HAVE THE BIBLE?

THE STANDARD #3 THE WORD OF GOD IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY WHAT IF WE DIDN’T HAVE THE BIBLE? DR. LARRY LAMB – MAY 22, 2022 Some people are converted by faith and grace, but their life history causes them high levels of biblical doubt because: 1) It’s not a fashionable belief held by the majority. - Go against the sermons of the culture and you’ll find yourself on a deserted island. - The more we study the Scriptures, the more we see that the attitude of our age parallels the attitude of centuries ago. The filling of the Holy Spirit results in boldness. (Acts 4.8) Acts 4.17-20 But to keep them from spreading their propaganda any further, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ Name again.” 18 So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the Name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than Him? 20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” 2) The voices of the culture pound away with greater frequency resulting in the formation of mind control. - Believing in Truth doesn’t matter until the day it matters. - Knowing and applying His Word create the maturity in Christ many long for. “Only a strong view of Scripture can withstand the powerful pressure of relativistic thinking.” Francis Schaeffer When we study, read, and apply the Scriptures we have: • the Mind of God • the Will of God • the Purpose of God • the Future of God 1) Why not discipline extra minutes to open the Mind of God to your mind? Where should I begin? Read Mark’s Gospel (16 chapters) 2) The Bible is not designed for collecting information in life but for transformation of life. The Architect of each soul (GOD) designed a document that speaks. The Author of life says, “Allow Me to structure your life.” 3) Whenever we read the Words of God, we are feeling the breath of God. 2 Timothy 3.16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. The Bible is the only book on earth where the author is always present while it’s being read. SALVATION PRAYER Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I know the penalty of my sin is physical, spiritual, and eternal death. I acknowledge I can't do anything about my situation. But I know that You came to pay the penalty for my sin. I trust in You alone as the One who died in my place. I repent of my sin and trust in You alone as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with the Living God. I desire to be Your child. I desire to live as Your child. In Your Name. Amen.

GOD CALLS HIS FAMILY TO BUILD HIS KINGDOM

BUILDERS GOD CALLS HIS FAMILY TO BUILD HIS KINGDOM DR. LARRY LAMB MARCH 6, 2022 The Christian life is a long series of decisions where we recognize the need to re-prioritize our affections. Colossians 2.8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high- sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 1 John 2.15-17 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for every- thing we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. What is The Kingdom of God? Here is what it’s not: ▪ It’s not complicated. ▪ It’s not our kingdom, but His. ▪ It’s not easy. ▪ It’s not temporal in scope. To believers, the Kingdom of God is where He is heavily invested: 1. The Church. 2. The people He created. 3. The authority of His written Word. ▪ We’re in a fierce war and the enemy seeks to capture and control our affections for God. ▪ God calls His people to build His Kingdom with the people in His Kingdom. He’s not calling people outside of the family of faith to build His Kingdom. HE’S CALLING US. ▪ Here’s one very large hurdle to building God’s Kingdom that originates from the kingdom of darkness: serve ourselves first. I build the Kingdom of God through: 1. The wise decisions of my life. MATURITY. 2. The submission of my character to God. AUTHORITY. 3. The willingness to place all that I have under His control. STEWARD- SHIP. 4. The eagerness to live in the Kingdom of Light. DEPENDENCE. (another word for power). 5. The audacity of choosing what’s eternal over the fleeting mirage of all things temporal. JOY. 6. By prayerfully answering the question: Why has God left me here? PURPOSE. Building God’s Kingdom is building what He places a high value on. Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank You, Lord, for saving me and for answering my prayer. AMEN.

CVC VALUE #5—BEFORE YOU ARE READY

BUILDERS CVC VALUE #5—BEFORE YOU ARE READY DR. LARRY LAMB - APRIL 3, 2022 Before You’re Ready 1. Discovery – What is God’s purpose for me? 2. Develop – What am I doing to develop the one and only life God has given me? “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they may have planned for you? Not much.” Jim Rohn 3. Decide – What decision will I make for Christ that stretches me away from being a consumer to a contributor? Does my FEAR fuel indecision? Does my FAITH fuel action? “We’re concerned with how things turn out; God seems more concerned with how we turn out.” Philip Yancey 2 Corinthians 5.7 For we live by believing and not by seeing. God says many times to people: You go first, and I will do something. God says, “BEFORE YOU’RE READY.” Malachi 3.10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in My Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put Me to the test! Joshua 1.1-3 After the death of Moses, the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. 3 I promise you what I promised Moses...” Ecclesiastes 3.1 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 11.4 Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. When God calls us to leave what’s comfortable, to go to the next place, remember God is already there. Before You’re Ready 1. Prayer = Asking God for daily wisdom. 2. Scripture = Searching God’s Word for depth. 3. Faith = Belief before sight. 4. Submission = Yes to God’s direction wherever, whatever, whomever. 5. People = Those who speak into our lives because they have a track record of maturity. 6. Waiting = Called and then sent appears to be the pattern God installs to develop our character. 7. Go = Move in the direction of God’s calling. 8. Repeat = Do this for life. Does my FEAR fuel indecision? Does my FAITH fuel action? Dear God, I know that I am on the wrong path. I admit that I am a sinner on the road headed away from You. I want to turn around and journey with You on the road to eternal life. I know I cannot do that by myself. I know You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. Right now, I trust in Jesus as the only One who can provide true life -- the life that is found in You. I trust in Jesus as the One who did for me what I cannot do for myself. I trust in Jesus as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

GOD CALLS EACH OF US TO ADVANCE IN GENEROSITY

BUILDERS GOD CALLS EACH OF US TO ADVANCE IN GENEROSITY DR. LARRY LAMB - MARCH 27, 2022 Mark 8.35 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. Mark10.43,44 Butamongyouitwillbedifferent.Whoeverwantsto be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. Through all the Bible God teaches a principal that states -- people receive through giving. When we give we receive. Proverbs 11.24,25 Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. 25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Acts 20.35 (Jesus said) It is more blessed to give than to receive. REF Malachi 1.7-10 Offering God our best creates contentment instead of guilt. Guilt giving isn’t sustainable and inferior giving dishonors God. REF 2 Corinthians 9.6-10 Generosity thinking realities from this text of God’s Word: 1) We cannot harvest a crop if we don’t plant seed. (v.6) A farmer who refuses to plant will have nothing to harvest and won’t be a farmer too long. 2) We determine the size of the harvest. (v.6) {Few seeds = small crop & generous planting = generous crop} 3) We can choose the attitude of giving: reluctant because of pressure or enthusiastic in obedience. (v.7) 4) We are blessed to bless others. (vs.8,9) The more we give, the more we have to give. (Why would God give me more if I’m irresponsible with what I have already been given?) 5) We receive more than we give. (v. 10) For God is the one who provides seed the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, He will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Unbelief puts our circumstance between us and God, but faith puts God between us and our circumstances. F.B. Meyer Hebrews 2.10 God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that He should make Jesus, through His suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation. Whatever we plan without God is miniscule. Whatever we plan with God can be a miracle. BIBLICAL GENEROSITY RECAP - KINGDOM EXPANDERS THINK LIKE THIS: 1) God is the giver and owner of all I have. 2) Putting God first in all quadrants of my life is the wise thing to do. 3) Partnering with God financially is gaining and not losing. Gracious and giving Lord. Thank You for taking the first step in giving me everlasting life through Jesus. I have a significant faith step that I know is right, but my faith seems small in this area. I pray for courage and trust to place all my possessions into Your hands. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
GOD CALLS EACH OF US TO GIVE MONEY TO HIS KINGDOM

GOD CALLS EACH OF US TO GIVE MONEY TO HIS KINGDOM

BUILDERS GOD CALLS EACH OF US TO GIVE MONEY TO HIS KINGDOM DR. LARRY LAMB - MARCH 20, 2022 Six prevailing styles of “giving” understanding in our church: 1) The Never Giver – Never sums up their attitude about biblical obedience regarding investment into God’s Work with finances. Their attitude is: “Regardless of what the Bible says, my money stays with me. Period. I love God’s Word, just not that part of God’s Word.” 2) The Left-Over Giver – “I’d give more if I had more.” Leftovers are good when it comes to food. It’s not with relationships toward God or people. 3) The New Giver – This may be the student, young adult, older person who has never been taught biblical principles of giving but they are eager to begin to trust God in this step of their maturity. Their attitude is I will begin to take steps. A lot of new givers’ thinking, centers on their eagerness to be obedient and their attitude is “Please teach me!” 4) Growing Giver – This friend gives because of their understanding of what God says about giving. It’s been a stretch to give 10% of their gross income. The growing giver realized that faithfulness in giving was obedience and discipleship. 5) Engaged Giver – They invest in God’s Kingdom with consistency. Giving is not a pain but a pleasure because they are giving back to God what already belongs to God. They don’t dread giving. The issue of financial ownership was settled a long time ago. If the engaged giver makes $1,000 in gross income for the month, then the math is simple. They will go online at CVC (in most cases) and give $100 which is a tithe (which means 10%). Here’s their attitude about the biblical teaching on giving: It’s a settled issue. 6) The Generational Giver – This person doesn’t give 10% of their gross income. They give more than 10% freely, joyfully, and with anticipa- tion of what God will do with their obedience. Matthew 6.21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Proverbs 11.24 Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. Proverbs 11.25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Proverbs 10.22 The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and He adds no sorrow to it. If we have a money problem, the answer to our problem is not money, it’s our unwise attitude about money. REF 2 Corinthians 9.6-8 • Fear has always been the enemy of faith. • When people begin to view their blessings/wealth from God’s perspective, they see that the thing to fear isn’t giving away too much -- but giving too little. • Sowing in faith results in an eternal crop but cowering in fear yields empty fields. 1) What are your next steps on the generosity journey? Of the six groups mentioned, where do you see yourself? 2) We want to help people who need a systematic approach to finances. 3) Whatever your next steps may be, follow through in obedience. Jesus, I thank You that You came and died on the cross for my sins so that I can be forgiven. I am a sinner and in need of Your grace, mercy, and forgiveness. I turn from my sins and say “No” to a life of living for myself. I turn to You and say “Yes” to Your will for my life. I ask You now to save me from my sins. I open my heart to You and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me and forgiving me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

GOD CALLS OUR CHURCH TO BUILD HIS KINGDOM

BUILDERS GOD CALLS OUR CHURCH TO BUILD HIS KINGDOM DR. LARRY LAMB MARCH 13, 2022 All followers of Jesus are called and commissioned to build the church. OUR MISSION “Inviting the lost and broken into our Christ-centered journey from empty religion to generational life change.” KEY: Inviting the lost and broken is a strategic act building the Kingdom. Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Who are the lost? - According to God’s Word, every person is lost before being in Christ. - Ephesians 2 says that people outside of Christ are spiritually dead. - Inviting the lost and broken is a strategic act building the Kingdom. OUR VALUES 1) Biblical truth alive in love – We unapologetically hold up the truth of Scripture regardless of the shifting winds of cultural confusion. Holding to Biblical fidelity is building. 2 Timothy 3.16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. OUR VALUES (cont.) 2) Power of Prayer – We mean that the Living Lord answers prayer. We pray and God decides. Devotion to prayer is building. 1 Thessalonians 5.17 Never stop praying. 3) Life Changing Generosity – We believe that when we act with generosity, we’re modeling God’s pattern of giving. The cause of Jesus gets built by generous people. John 3.16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. 4) Unity in Diversity - We lead with Jesus because He is a unifier. Unity is a big deal to Jesus – John 17. Unity in diversity and mission build the what’s important to Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1.10 I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. 5) Before You’re Ready – This value has some entrepreneurial qualities to it. Taking bold initiatives builds. All followers of Jesus are called and commissioned to build the church. AMEN.
SERMON ON THE MOUNT #31: DISCIPLESHIP

SERMON ON THE MOUNT #31: DISCIPLESHIP

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 31 – DISCIPLESHIP DR. LARRY LAMB – DECEMBER 12, 2021 MATTHEW 7.24-29 Desire is good but follow through is discipleship. S = Study and O = Obey What do disciples of Jesus do? They study and obey. Matthew 7.24-27 Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears My teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rain and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash. Wisdom is seeing life from God’s perspective. Wisdom is asking these types of questions: -What does God say about this? -What is God calling me to do? -How can I honor the God I love? -How will I respond to God’s love for me? The wise person builds on a solid foundation = OBEDIENCE. The unwise builds on sand = DISOBEDIENCE. Is there HOPE for people who have built their marriage, business, family, or life on sand? Of course. It’s called GRACE. Disciples of Jesus do this: They follow Jesus as a lifestyle. Matthew 7.24 Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Matthew 7.28,29 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at His teaching, 29 for He taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law. For the rest of your lives remember this: 1) Wisdom is within reach...ask for it. James 1.5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 2) Truth can be known...apply it. 2 Timothy 3.16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 3) The way of Jesus is to be followed...activate it. Matthew 6.33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. Our lives will be built on rock or sand. - SAND is looking backwards and living foolishly. (Defeated & Regret) What is God asking you to stop? - ROCK is looking forward and living righteously. (Discipleship & Hope) What is God asking you to move forward in? Jesus, I thank You that You came and died on the cross for my sins so that I can be forgiven. I am a sinner and in need of Your grace, mercy, and forgiveness. I turn from my sins and say “No” to a life of living for myself. I turn to You and say “Yes” to Your will for my life. I ask You now to save me from my sins. I open my heart to You and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me and forgiving me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
BEWARE

BEWARE

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 29 – BEWARE MATTHEW 7.15-20 DR. LARRY LAMB – NOVEMBER 28, 2021 Matthew 7.15 Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harm￾less sheep but are really vicious wolves. The pretense of false teachers destroys lives by their deceptive words. Matthew 7.16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Teachings and actions by false teachers reveal their deception. 1) They have the compulsion to draw people to themselves. The church, the class, the community group, the discipleship setting simply is a way to attract people to them with their polished words. If the false, vicious wolf draws people to him or herself, then the attention is off Jesus. With this spirit comes an attitude of selective authority. Be aware of the teacher who encourages claims of exclusive truth and discourages you from listening to anyone else. That’s a vicious wolf in sheep’s clothing! 2) A vicious wolf will reference the Bible just enough to deceive but not be solid in their approach to the full Truth of God’s Word. Strong Foundational Biblical Truths - The Bible is God’s perfect Word without error. - Jesus was born from the Virgin Mary. - Salvation is by grace and not by works. - Jesus is fully God and fully man. Deity. - People are born in sin. - Jesus died a literal death on the cross for our sins. - There was a literal resurrection. - Heaven and Hell are real. - The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Matthew 7.17-20 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. The pretense of false teachers destroys lives by their deceptive words. There are three kinds of false teachers: • Heretics – openly reject the Word of God and teach what’s contrary to Truth. • Apostates – once followed the Truth of God’s Word but have turned away for some reason. • Deceivers – give the appearance of truth in their teaching and actions. Dig deep enough into their teaching and find that it’s a lie. Three Actions For Living Free From Deception 1) Practice the discipline of studying Scripture without becoming bloated with pride and judgmentalism. 2) God can give us wisdom to avoid vicious wolves and not be boastful about our preferences that are often presented as truth. 3) What kind of fruit (evidence of following Jesus) does your life produce? People are not saved by good works but saved for good works. Amen.

SERMON ON THE MOUNT #30: FAKE

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 30 – FAKE MATTHEW 7.21-23 DR. LARRY LAMB – DECEMBER 5, 2021 A person of integrity doesn’t waste emotional currency trying to prove what’s lacking. Matthew 7.21 Not everyone who calls out to Me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of My Father in heaven will enter. ▪ It takes work to be a fake. It takes humble desire and devotion to be faithful. John 8.31 Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, “You are truly My disciples if you remain faithful to My teachings.” ▪ It’s one thing to use the Name of the Lord and it’s another thing to follow the will of the Lord in obedience. ▪ It’s one thing to identify with the way of CROSS and it’s another thing to live for the Jesus of the CROSS. Matthew 7.22 On judgment day many will say to Me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in Your name and cast out demons in Your name and performed many miracles in Your name.’ Revelation 20.11-15 And I saw a great white throne and the One sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. ▪ People are not saved by good works but because they are saved, they have a desire and determination to do good works with grace- filled motives. Matthew 7.23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from Me, you who break God’s laws.’ You who break God’s laws are workers of lawlessness. Christians: sin but do not want to make it a habit of sin. When we sin, we confess our sin. Christians stumble and fall but they don’t make it a habit of lawlessness. A non-Christian: claims “I don’t care what God says, I’ll pursue my own way.” So, ask yourself today: 1) Am I a fake? 2) Do I have a desire for the truths of God? 3) When I sin, am I bothered, or do I rationalize my sin and stay stuck? 4) What’s my story of salvation? (Religious or a Relationship) 5) What should I do next? Heaven and Hell are real places, therefore listen and obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit. 6) Before this day ends, why not mention gratitude to the Living Lord for grace? A person of integrity doesn’t waste emotional currency trying to prove what’s lacking. Amen.

SERMON ON THE MOUNT #28: CHOICES

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 28– CHOICES MATTHEW 7.13,14 DR. LARRY LAMB – NOVEMBER 14, 2021 Matthew 7.13,14 You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The high- way to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. The most important decision in life: Am I in relationship with God through Jesus because of His sufficient work on the cross for me? ▪ Matthew 7.13-14 conveys this idea: The only way to God is on His terms. ▪ There are not many roads to God; just one and that’s through the Messiah Jesus. The gospel is narrow and the narrow gate demands REPENTANCE. John 14.6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” 1 Timothy 2.5 For there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. THE ONLY WAY TO GOD IS ON HIS TERMS. THE HIGHWAY TO HELL IS BROAD, AND ITS GATE IS WIDE FOR THE MANY WHO CHOOSE THAT WAY. Important Note: The commonality of the narrow gate and the broad gate is that people enter either one. Here’s the raw side of reality of eternity —regardless of personal opinions, all of us will live in eternity in a real place called heaven or a real place called hell. Jesus preached: - that people make choices - that some live on the narrow way that leads to life and some on the broad way that leads to destruction - that a few travel the narrow way but the broad way is jammed up with people. WHAT ROAD ARE YOU ON? ▪ For my friends who are trying to earn heaven on the merit plan: STOP. ▪ To my friends who have accepted the free gift of Jesus, it is a privi- lege to live for the Living Lord not because we have to but because we get to! Romans 5.1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Amen.

Cielo Vista Church does not own this music track. Used from TuneCore “Ricardo Sanchez- Grano de Mostaz" ©2011 THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 27 – OTHERS DR. LARRY LAMB – OCTOBER 31, 2021 MATTHEW 7.12 Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. Galatians 5.16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The tension of surrendering never expires. ▪ Our nature is sinful and because we are sinful, we are selfish. We want things our way. Luke 22.42 Father, if You are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not mine. ▪ The essence of our nature fights and wars against surrender. We’re born to protect our turf, power up when threatened, and lash back. Jeremiah 17.9 The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Romans 3.23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. The tension of surrendering never expires. ▪ We are the least like Jesus when we allow our heart to drift. Drift to patterns where we’ve lost the passion to pursue the heart of Jesus and embrace the spirit of the culture that preaches only one message . . . “live for you.” This next week pray like this: “Jesus, as I surrender to Your authority give me the awareness of the needs of people around me and allow my life to be Your life around others.” 1 Peter 2.23 He did not retaliate when He was insulted, nor threaten revenge when He suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. Living A Patterned Life 1) Has God placed people in your life who drive you crazy; simply a test to drive you away from selfish demonstrations? Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. 2) Is there a conversation that needs to be revisited because it was salt- ed with impatience, and you sense that words were not wholesome? Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. 3) At work this week, do you believe there will be occasions where Jesus would say, “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.” 4) Walking down the halls of school tomorrow, would you practice the presence of Jesus and let His words echo in your heart? Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. ▪ Living for Jesus is impossible left to our own strength. ▪ We know we’re moving in the direction of Jesus’ life lived through us: Our desire for the Christ-like life is fueled by surrender to His authority, His words, and His pattern. Acknowledge the tension but pursue Jesus’ life for the rest of your life. Amen.

SERMON ON THE MOUNT #26: A.S.K.

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 26 – A.S.K. DR. LARRY LAMB – OCTOBER 24, 2021 MATTHEW 7.7-11 Three areas of a Christian life that indicate a maturing spirit include: We rely on the Living Lord. We come to the Living Lord in deepening prayer. We submit to the way and timing the Living Lord answers prayer. Let’s not make prayer complicated. Matthew 7.7,8 Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. ▪ The principle of prayer from Jesus is to be consistent and persistent in prayer. The commands are: - Keep ASKING - Keep SEEKING - Keep KNOCKING ▪ Prayer can appear to be a waste of time for the hard charging independent person who is used to handling life on their own. Let’s not make prayer complicated. Pray to address your NEEDS: - The situation has gotten worse. Pray. - The relationship is deteriorating. Pray. - Our finances are scary. Pray. - The news is good. Pray. - We’re waiting on God. Pray. ▪ Waiting on God is never a waste of time. God’s silence doesn’t mean He has forgotten about us. Time is nothing to God. 1 John 5.14 Now this is the confidence we have before Him: Whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Matthew 7.9-11 You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him. Jesus’s message on prayer: 1) The practical nature of giving from a position of authority. (vs 9, 10) As we pray constantly remember ...GOD IS OUR SOURCE. 2) Jesus simply tells the people to ... ASK – SEEK – KNOCK (vs 11) This week: ▪ Pray for the daily emptying of self-saturated requests. Trim off con- stant “give me” prayers. ▪ Pray daily for the leaders of our country...specifically President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. ▪ Pray daily that CVC would impact people close and afar with the life- changing message of Jesus. ▪ Pray daily that God would show you what He sees and pray with a sincere spirit. Before you pray this week, why not ask this: “Father, who and what should I pray for today?” Jesus, I thank You that You came and died on the cross for my sins so that I can be forgiven. Amen.

SERMON ON THE MOUNT #25: JUDGING

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 25 – JUDGING DR. LARRY LAMB OCTOBER 10, 2021 MATTHEW 7.1-6 Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. Our concern should be God’s standard not our preferences. Matthew 7.3-5 And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. - Christ is saying here He is concerned with His followers’ moral failures. - We criticize others when we have far more serious shortcomings in our own lives. Galatians 6.1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Matthew 7.6 Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you. 1) The reason for judgement is to minister to people not to condemn them. 2) A great way to get rid of logs in life is refusing to lie to myself and stop comparing myself to others. 3) The longer we play God, the more comfortable we become at meddling into the lives of others without knowing what people may be going through. 4) Until we get to heaven, we will have the old nature to contend with (practical) and at the same time know that we can never be judged for our sin because of the CROSS. Romans 8.1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Our concern should be God’s standard not our preferences. God’s Truth does not fluctuate, our preferences do. Amen.

SERMON ON THE MOUNT #24: PRIORITIES

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNTAIN MESSAGE 24 – PRIORITIES DR. LARRY LAMB – SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 MATTHEW 6.25-34 - Worry means to strangle. - Anxiousness means to be pulled in different directions. Worry is the greatest thief of JOY! Worry begins in our thinking – mind. Worry settles into our feelings – heart. Matthew 6.25-27 That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 6.28-31 And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ Worry shows we are mastered by our circumstances. - Our view of life is finite, and God’s view is infinite. - We have limited reasoning capabilities, and God has unlimited power to reason. Matthew 6.32-33 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. Unbelievers – They’re on their own. They are their own source. Believers – Your Heavenly Father is engaged in your life. He is your Source. ▪ Worry–MYstrength ▪ Contentment–GOD’Sstrength Matthew 6.34 So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. All we can do is live one day at a time . . . 1. But it does not mean we should not plan. 2. But it does not mean we should not think about tomorrow. 3. So, we should concentrate on the provision of God to help us with temptations, struggles, victories, and blessings for that day. 4. So, may we live under the canopy of His grace today without the worrying over the past or the future. Make it a priority to seek the Kingdom of God first. He is THE priority, and we are HIS priority. Amen.
